San Diego-based ship repair provider Continental Maritime has been awarded a $32.5 million firm-fixed-price contract for a combination of maintenance, modernization and repair of the U.S. Navy amphibious transport dock USS Somerset (LPD-25).

The contract includes options that, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value to more than $38.4 million.

The USS Somerset, which was first launched in 2014, has a length of 684 feet, a total beam of 105 feet, a displacement of 25,000 tons and a capacity of 700 to 800 people.

Work is set to be performed in San Diego starting later this year, and is expected to be completed by June 2022.

Fiscal 2021 U.S. Navy funding in the amount of $30,159,435 – 97% of the total amount – was obligated at time of contract award and will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.

Additional Navy operation and maintenance funding in the amount of $2,361,156 was obligated at time of award and will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.

The contract was competitively procured via the Federal Business Opportunities website, with a total two offers received in response to solicitation N00024-21-R-4456s issued by the USN’s Naval Sea Systems Command.
