Longtime maritime expert Walter Tague has been appointed vice president of sales and supply of Crowley Fuels’ businesses unit, which provides energy logistics services in Alaska, the company announced July 18.
In his new role, Tague is expected to manage Crowley’s marketing, sales, customer relations and procurement of refined product supply for the Alaskan and Canadian Arctic markets, the company said.
Tague, who started with Crowley in 1999, brings more than three decades of experience in the industry to the position, particularly in supply chain management and support in the oil and gas sectors, according to the company.
He’s had various roles at Crowley, including director of commercial operations, managing 70 million gallons of annual fuel supply and making sure it’s safely distributed to more than 160 communities across Alaska.
He also played a role in supplier relations and business development, which opened up opportunities for new supply sources and foreign markets, according to Crowley.
Tague also developed an approved process for using tank vessels in Western Alaska, gaining acceptance from key state, federal and international entities, the company said.
“Walt’s broad experience and invaluable knowledge of the maritime and energy sectors have already made a significant and positive impact on our strategic capabilities within the region,” Crowley Fuels Senior Vice President and General Manager Kollin Fencil said. “His vision and commitment to operational excellence will continue to drive our sales and supply initiatives forward.”
Tague has a Bachelor of Science degree in marine transportation from the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point and is a board member of the Alaska Chadux Network, serving as chairman of the Best Practices Committee for the Alternate Planning Criteria for Tankers.
