Anchorage-based heavy civil contractor Knik Construction is commemorating five decades in business this year.
Knik, which is part of the Lynden family of companies, was founded in 1974 and then began establishing its reputation as a company that can build complicated infrastructure projects in difficult and remote locations when it won a highway and bridge construction project bid near Fairbanks, Alaska.
The company has also pointed to another memorable project: quickly fixing a freeway damaged by an earthquake in Anchorage in 2018.
Knik President Dan Hall said building relationships with employees, government, tribal and village members have allowed the company to flourish over the years.
“Some of our most memorable work is when we can go into a village to improve its infrastructure and involve the local residents in that work,” he said. “In Aniak, we leaned heavily on local people to complete a large multi-season runway project.”
Knik has been honored with a National Asphalt Pavement Association Award for its work on an airport reconstruction project in McGrath, Alaska, and the AGC (Associated General Contractors) Alaska and an AGC National award for making emergency coastal storm repairs in 2022 in the aftermath of Typhoon Merbok.
“We are proud to mark this 50-year milestone, but we are most proud of the excellent work we’ve done and the lasting relationships we’ve built,” Hall said.
