Major boat club operator Freedom Boat Club announced Monday that it plans to open its next location at the Port of Bellingham’s Squalicum Harbor.

Experienced franchisees Shawn and Tracy Ottenbreit are expected to own and operate the location, which they plan to open in time for this year’s boating season starting May 1 with pocket cruisers, bowriders, center consoles and pilothouse offshore fishing boats, the port said.

The new location at Bellingham allows boaters to broaden their access to the San Juan and Gulf Islands.

“We are thrilled to continue our growth across the Pacific Northwest and support the expansion of the Freedom brand with the opening of our newest location at the Port of Bellingham,” Tracy Ottenbreit said. “We have received such an overwhelming positive response from our members who enjoy the convenience and accessibility of Freedom, and we couldn’t be more excited to offer an additional opportunity to explore some of (the) most desired boating waterways in our region.”

The new location’s planned address is 8 Bellwether Way in Bellingham.

The port is proud to welcome the business to Whatcom County, Port Commission President Bobby Briscoe said.

“Squalicum Harbor provides easy access to some of the best cruising waters in the world and Freedom Boat Club offers a simple and affordable option for people interested in boating and fishing throughout the San Juan Islands,” Briscoe said.
