Port of Long Beach Seeking Community Grant Applicants

Nonprofit organizations may have the chance to get their events and programs funded by the Port of Long Beach’s grant program.

Throughout this month, the port is accepting submissions for its Community Sponsorship Program, which funds activities that raise public awareness of the region’s maritime industry.

Community groups have until 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 30 to submit their grant request for port sponsorship.

The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners — which has set aside $1 million for Fiscal Year 2022 – will make the final approval.

Submissions will be reviewed based on “how they can help the port inform the community of its critical role as an economic engine and jobs creator,” according to the port. Applicants should consider the timing of their events since it will take roughly 60 days after the application deadline before commission approval.

Applicants are advised to plan ahead for their events — after the application period closes, it will take about 60 days before recommendations will be sent to the Board of Harbor Commissioners for a decision, port officials say.
