Twenty-seven area groups received grants totaling $1 million from the Port of Los Angeles toward projects and programs that benefit various communities.
Recipients include EXP, which has said it will use the money for workforce development and youth maritime education programs, and the Los Angeles Maritime Institute, which plans to fund TopSail, an educational sailing program for at-risk kids.
The organization Clean Wilmington also netted funds towards its continued efforts to clean and beautify the community, while San Pedro’s International Bird Rescue Center will use the grant to support its rescue and rehabilitation work of native aquatic birds.
“This year’s nonprofit grantees and all past recipients play a vital role in our community, delivering important and valuable services and activities that help make the Los Angeles Harbor area stronger, more resilient and more connected,” Los Angeles Harbor Commissioner President Jaime Lee said.
