Port of Oakland Executive Director Danny Wan has been named president of the California Association of Port Authorities, it was announced Thursday.
CAPA’s 11-member Board of Directors voted unanimously for Wan to serve a two-year term in the leadership role.
Since becoming the Port of Oakland’s executive director in November 2019, Wan has been involved in emergency relief efforts surrounding the Grand Princess cruise ship and the pandemic and developed COVID-19 testing sites at Oakland International Airport.
“As president of CAPA, I look forward to working directly with policymakers to ensure California’s public ports can thrive,” Wan said. “California ports played a vital role in the response and recovery efforts around the COVID-19 pandemic and are an important part of the State’s economy. Our ports are committed to continuing this work as our state rebounds from the pandemic.”
Port of Redwood City Executive Director Christine Zortman will serve as board vice president, Wan’s previous role on the board, and Port of Long Beach Director of Finance Wei Chi has been named board treasurer.
The longtime association, which consists of port executives throughout the state, offers guidance on public policy for the 11 public commercial port authorities in California and raises awareness in the maritime industry.
