U.S. Coast Guard officials with the National Maritime Center (NMC) are providing duplicate merchant mariner credentials at no charge to mariners whose credentials were lost or destroyed during the recent wildfires in Hawaii. Affected mariners are asked to provide a statement of loss to NMC via fax at (304) 433-3412 or email the statement to IASKNMC@uscg.mil. Those who applied for merchant mariner credentials may have to wait a little longer to receive them. The National Maritime Center is delayed in issuing credentials because of heightened application volumes and ongoing technical issues with its credential production equipment, Maritime Center commanding officer Capt. It could take as many as 21 days for mariners to receive their completed credentials through the mail from the National Maritime Center, and without being able to track them, credentials could be lost or returned.
