Port of Redwood City Nets $1.5 Million Grant for Anti-Terrorism Security Measures

The Port of Redwood City has been awarded a $1.5 million grant by the Department of Homeland Security to enhance anti-terrorism security efforts, the Northern California seaport announced Dec. 3. The Port of Redwood City ended its 2022-23 fiscal year on June 30 with record-breaking numbers and news of a new security grant, the port announced Sept. 25. The port reported $10 million in gross revenue at the end of the fiscal year, a 4% jump from the prior year. Port of Redwood City Reports Revenue Growth

Despite a dip in total cargo tonnage, the Port of Redwood City ended its 2021-22 fiscal year with positive revenue growth, the agency announced Sept. 20. The Northern California seaport generated $9.4 million in gross revenue, up 4% from the previous fiscal year. The port’s property rentals, leases and new business contributed to that growth, which amounted to an uptick of $375,000. Meanwhile, total cargo tonnage at the port dropped 30,000 metric tons to 1.79 million metric year over year. Three members of the Port of Redwood City’s Board of Port Commissioners have recently been elected to new leadership roles within the commission, it was announced Sept. 20. Ralph Garcia, who has been part of the commission for 17 years, has been chosen as the new chair of the commission that governs the Northern California seaport.
