Prince Rupert, British Columbia-based Trigon Pacific Terminals Ltd. said Feb. 12 that it has agreed to work with the Ulsan Free Economic Zone Authority (UFEZ) on a framework that would further develop hydrogen-as-ammonia exports between Canada and South Korea.
The Ulsan Free Economic Zone is an industrial hub in South Korea specializing in automotive, shipbuilding, petrochemicals and emerging green industries.
Both parties have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that has Trigon supporting the development of receiving terminals in Ulsan, South Korea, according to the announcement.
“Trigon has been actively advancing development of a Canadian West Coast export corridor for the shipment of hydrogen-as-ammonia from Canada to global markets,” Trigon CEO Rob Booker said.
Trigon, a multi-commodity bulk and liquefied gas export terminal at the Port of Prince Rupert, wants to use its advantageous position between Western Canadian producers and Asia-Pacific customers to be the export hub for the Canadian West Coast.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with UFEZ with the aim for Canada to be a supplier of choice and we look forward to ongoing and productive cooperation with the esteemed UFEZ team,” Booker said.
