USCG Seeks Public Input on Transit Project

U.S. Coast Guard officials are asking the public to weigh in on a proposed West Seattle and Ballard Link Extensions light-rail transit project across Salmon Bay over the Lake Washington Ship Canal.

The Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority is requesting a preliminary navigation clearance determination from the 13th Coast Guard District as part of the transit agency’s Coast Guard Bridge Permit application for the project. It also helps the agency develop alternatives for the project.

The Coast Guard wants to hear from mariners about the navigational clearances and any potential operational or economic impacts the project could have on traveling the waterway or getting to nearby facilities. The deadline to weigh in on the project is Oct. 15.

Comments can be mailed to Commander (dpw), Thirteenth Coast Guard District, 915 2nd Ave, Rm 3510, Seattle, WA or emailed to D13-SMB-D13BRIDGES@uscg.mil. Commenters can also call (206) 220-7282.
