WSF Reduces Services as Traffic Declines

Washington State Ferries

In mid-April Washington State Ferries (WSF) elected to extend its winter sailing schedule into the early summer months as the number of daily walk-on passengers declined by more than 90 percent compared to the same period last year and the number of vehicles carried dropped 65 percent. In addition, seat intervals on the ferries have been taped off to encourage social distancing and crews have begun monitored loads to ensure that there is enough seating for embarking customers.

Because of the low volume of traffic vehicle reservations were cancelled in April to give emergency medical vehicles and teams priority boarding. Further cancellations and adjustments are expected to be made through the summer months, depending upon ridership trends and state and federal guidelines.
