Furthering its efforts to create a terminal aimed at meeting the demand of future offshore wind development on the West Coast, Crowley has opened a wind services office in Eureka, Calif., the company announced April 20.
The new space at the Carson Building in Eureka’s historic Old Town area allows the company to move forward on a new agreement with the Port of Humboldt Bay to exclusively negotiate to build and run the terminal, according to Crowley, which is also developing wind services terminals in Louisiana and Massachusetts.
Once completed, the Humboldt Bay Offshore Wind Heavy Lift Marine Terminal is expected to support tenants in related services, including producing, installing and operating offshore wind floating platforms and using large heavy cargo vessels.
“We are excited to advance our collaboration with the community to help create and support renewable, clean energy from offshore wind,” Crowley Wind Services Vice President Jeff Andreini said. “The establishment of our new office is just the start of our mutual actions to successfully invest in the region, workforce and sustainable wind energy in California.”
Last December, the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management awarded leases for five lease areas off Central and Northern California coasts.
