Starting Aug. 4, Port of Long Beach plans to shut down Harbor Scenic Drive between Harbor Plaza and Ocean Boulevard for several weekends to allow work crews to make roadway repairs.

This is expected to affect anyone needing access to Piers G, H and J at the port, as well as the Queen Mary, the Carnival Cruise terminal and adjacent businesses, so drivers have been advised by the port to mind the detours and move cautiously when in work zone areas.

Heavy-duty vehicles are expected to detour through a combination of Pico Avenue and Harbor Plaza, while other vehicles could use Queensway Bridge from downtown Long Beach, according to the port.

Northbound Harbor Scenic Drive is scheduled to be closed:

  • 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Aug. 4
  • 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 5-6
  • 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 26

Southbound Harbor Scenic Drive is to be closed:

  • 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Aug. 18
  • 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 19- 20
  • 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 27

For the northbound detour, go west on Harbor Plaza from Harbor Scenic and proceed around to Pico Avenue and then to the north onramp of the 710 Freeway. Smaller vehicles can also use Harbor Plaza and on-ramp to Queensway Bridge to get to downtown.

For the southbound detour, exit 710 Freeway South/Harbor Scenic at Pico Avenue, south of Ocean Boulevard. Make a left at Harbor Plaza, and take Harbor Plaza to either southbound Harbor Scenic or to the Queen Mary, the Carnival Cruise terminal or other adjacent businesses.

Smaller vehicles may also use Queensway Bridge south from downtown to Harbor Plaza east exit and turn left on Harbor Plaza to a final destination.
