New Ferry Suffers Engine Problems

Stena Line’s new Chinese-built cruise ferry Stena Estrid had to be taken out of service in May, just four months after delivery, because of mechanical problems. The new ship, built at a cost of EUR 185 million by China’s AVIC Weihai Shipyard for Stena’s Holyhead-Dublin route, is expected to be out of service for 6 to 8 weeks while problems with its German-built engines are rectified.
