The Port of Long Beach is now offering Truck Alert, a new free opt-in texting tool aimed at helping truck drivers avoid traffic delays at the port.

The new tool will allow truckers who move cargo in and out of the seaport to get traffic updates, suggested detours and other vital information via text notifications.

“Truck Alert is designed to reduce road congestion by providing truck drivers an opportunity to improve scheduling and enhance turn times during the unprecedented cargo surge we’re experiencing,” port Executive Director Mario Cordero said. “This new program will enhance our ability to move cargo quickly, safely and efficiently through the port.”

The announcement comes as the nation’s second busiest seaport has been experiencing record cargo levels in 13 out of the last 14 months.

“Providing this service to our truck drivers is another way we are strengthening every link in the supply chain,” Long Beach Harbor Commission President Steven Neal remarked, adding that it would strengthen the port’s relationship with its partners in the trucking industry.

To subscribe, drivers may text the keyword TruckAlert (not case-sensitive) to 79516. They can also text STOP to 79516 to be removed. While the service is free, standard text messaging rates may be applied.
