The Port of Vancouver’s Canada Place cruise terminal expects to break its previous passenger record by more than 80,000 passengers during the 2024 cruise season, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority revealed Oct. 28.
From March 11 to Oct. 29 of this year, the terminal had an estimated 327 visits from cruise ships and 1.32 million passengers for a year-over-year growth of 7%, which if confirmed, would break last year’s passenger record.
Canada Place experienced six of its all-time 10 busiest days for passengers this season, including its second busiest on record April 29 when nearly 20,000 passengers moved through the terminal, according to the port authority.
“(T)o have back-to-back record years run so smoothly is a huge accomplishment and testament to the dedication of those involved,” Shri Madiwal, vice president of operations and supply chain at the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, said in a statement.
The cruise industry is a major economic revenue generator for the region, where cruise-related spending accounts for more than $1.1 billion locally annually, according to a new Economic Impact Study released earlier this year by the port authority.
“We look forward to our future sailings to and from Vancouver throughout 2025 and 2026, helping support the local businesses,” Norwegian Cruise Line President David J. Herrera said.
