Port of Prince Rupert Touts Triumphant Cruise Season

Two years after seeing the COVID-19 pandemic halt cruise activities at its seaport, the Port of Prince Rupert is touting triple-digit numbers in cruise passenger volumes and its busiest cruise season in more than a decade. The British Columbia seaport announced Oct. 26 that it has seen a 230% surge in cruise passenger numbers when comparing this year’s cruise season to the 2019 season, the last time cruise vessels operated in Canada before the pandemic. Port of Prince Rupert Adds 16 Cruise Vessel Calls

The Port of Prince Rupert has 16 new vessel calls being added to this season’s cruise schedule, a move that could mean as many as 46,000 more cruise passengers this spring and summer, the port announced earlier this month. With the Princess Cruises-operated Ruby Princess arriving May 17 at Prince Rupert, now a regular stop on the vessel’s Alaska schedule, the port now anticipates 43 cruise ship calls and about 60,622 passengers visiting Prince Rupert between now and Sept. 30.
