Mariners and other Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) holders can now renew their credentials online, the Transportation Security Administration has announced. The TSA made the online option available beginning Aug. 11.

“Renewing online eliminates the need to go to an enrollment center, supports U.S. critical infrastructure and supply chain workers, and saves travel time and expenses associated with being away from work,” TSA said in its announcement.

Nearly 60% of those who need the credential to gain entry to secure areas of U.S. maritime facilities and vessels renew their TWIC cards every five years.

Most eligible applicants can get their TWIC cards in less than 10 days, although those with more complex cases may need more than 60 days to be processed, according to the TSA. They can also check online for their TWIC status by visiting https://universalenroll.dhs.gov/workflows?workflow=service-status.

More information on TWIC enrollment and renewal is available at https://universalenroll.dhs.gov/. Additional info on the TWIC program can be found at the TSA TWIC website or the Coast Guard TWIC website.
