Port of Long Beach to Give Pier B On-Dock Rail Project Update

The public can hear the latest information about the Pier B On-Dock Rail Support Facility project at a virtual meeting scheduled for June 21.

Port staff members plan to give an update on the Pier B On-Dock Rail Support Facility, which the port considers central to its multi-million dollar rail capital improvement program. The project is expected to move more containers from terminals directly onto trains instead of using trucks and link smaller train segments to full-sized trains.

“Moving cargo by on-dock rail is cleaner and more efficient, as it reduces truck traffic,” the port said in a statement.

The project, to be constructed in phases beginning 2024, is expected to bolster capacity and operations. The full project is expected to be complete by 2032.

The meeting is set for 10 a.m. on Wednesday Click here to register by computer, phone or other mobile devices. Can’t make it to the meeting? The port plans to make a recording of it available at www.polb.com/PierB.
