Port of Oakland Monthly Cargo Dips Slightly

Last month, the number of imports that moved through the Port of Oakland rose 6.7% from the same time a year ago, even as the amount of overall cargo dipped by less than 1% year over year, according to data released by the port Tuesday, July 5. Oakland reported a 0.5 percent increase in May exports year-over-year. The Northern California seaport handled 98,789 TEUs in imports, a win for port officials who pointed to ongoing congestion in the global supply chain. Bottlenecks at some ports and COVID-19 lockdowns at other ports have led to delayed arrivals of cargo to Oakland.…

Factory and port closures in China to curb COVID-19 spread and the resulting impact to ocean carrier scheduling contributed to declining cargo volumes at the Port of Oakland last month, according to new statistics released Friday, May 20. Cargo Volumes Fall at Port of Oakland

Overall cargo volumes last month fell 11% year over year at the Port of Oakland, according to new data released April 20.  In March, imports dipped 3% and exports tumbled 25% compared to the same time last year, according to the port.  Fewer ship arrivals resulted in diminished business last month when only 82 vessels came to the Northern California seaport, down from 93 in March 2021, data show.  Bottlenecks at West Coast seaports and a COVID-19 related port closure in Shanghai also played a factor in reduced cargo numbers, port officials said.  Fewer ship visits also resulted in reduced…

Port of Oakland Imports Up, Exports Down

The number of imports grew while exports fell at the Port of Oakland in February, according to data released by the port Friday, March 18. Imports in February rose 6.3%, continuing a robust U.S. consumer demand for goods created abroad, according to the port. Meanwhile, exports dropped 10.3% year over year, which the port says has been hindered in the shortage of containers and lack of vessel space. “We’re gratified by the strength of the import business moving through Oakland,” Port Maritime Director Bryan Brandes said. “And we’re certain that export totals are going to pick up as we increase…
