The Puyallup Tribe in western Washington state has received a new BRIX Marine-built vessel that’s expected to help bolster shellfish monitoring operations in the Pacific Northwest.
The Port Angeles, Wash.-based vessel designer and builder announced April 24 that it has finished and delivered to the tribe the 3513-CTC Sovereign One.
The vessel is a custom-built aluminum catamaran that features 5086 alloy aluminum hull skins, 5052 alloy aluminum interior transverse frames, twin Yamaha XTO 425hp outboards c/w SS props, a 12V DC electrical system and a 30A 120V AC system, according to BRIX Marine.
The 35-foot-long catamaran has a13-foot beam as well as insulation and heaters to give shellfish monitors added safety and comfort, plus advanced navigation and communication systems, including a Garmin GPSMAP, VHF radios and radar.
The catamaran was designed with feedback from senior shellfish monitor Big BeanFlores, who with the support of Shellfish Department Director Nancy Shippentower saw a need for a more robust watercraft that could replace an older backup vessel and could provide superior navigation in rough waters, according to BRIX Marine.
“The delivery of the Sovereign One underscores BRIX Marine’s commitment to delivering purpose-built vessels that meet the unique needs of its clients,” the company said.
