Officials from the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach plan to offer an update on the San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan and are asking stakeholders to weigh in at a virtual meeting set. PMSA: Container Dwell Times Remain High at Long Beach, LA

The average amount of time a cargo container remains at Los Angeles and Long Beach terminals before it leaves by rail or by truck remains high, according to new data released Sept. 20 by the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association. The average container dwell time in August was a “record high for rail-bound cargo,” at 16.5 days. That’s a slight uptick from the average of 16.4 days in July, according to PMSA data. As consumer spending slows, the Port of Long Beach saw its cargo numbers dip slightly last month from the same time a year ago, narrowly missing a record month, according to new data released by the port Sept. 16. The seaport handled 806,940 TEUs in August, dipping 0.1% from August 2021, the port’s busiest August on record. Imports fell 5.6% to 384,530 TEUs, while exports inched up 1.6% to 121,408 TEUs last month compared to the same time in 2021. Energy-Related Projects are Focus of POLB Grant Workshops

The Port of Long Beach is inviting organizations that may have an energy efficiency or solar power generation project to two workshops seeking to help groups apply for the port’s Community Grants Program. The port is seeking organizations whose proposals help sensitive populations such as seniors, pregnant women, children and people with asthma or chronic illnesses. The Community Grants Program funding is given to groups that help communities most affected by port-related operations. The Port of Long Beach said that it saw its best July ever last month when it processed 785,843 TEUs, according to new data released by the seaport Aug 11. Last month’s overall volumes narrowly topped the previous record month, July 2021, by 0.13%.
